Science Agrees that Your Upper Cervical Chiropractor Can Treat Your Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most typical reasons why people go to the doctor. But unfortunately, it is also one of the main reasons why physicians write scripts for pain medications, most of which are always very addictive.

Because of this, medical researchers are constantly studying alternative ways to find a cure for low, middle, and upper back pain. A publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association recently addressed one of the methods. This method is called spinal manipulation. Spinal manipulation is performed by physical therapists, upper cervical chiropractors, massage therapists, and other healthcare providers.

Spinal manipulation and back pain

The research involved 26 studies that included 1,700 patients suffering from back pain. In each study, back pain was measured on a scale of 0 to 10. The average pain declined by one point after spinal manipulation.

While the improvement may seem modest, over-the-counter pain relievers provide just about the same relief. Also, most spinal manipulation techniques do not have the side effects of medications.

Now, let’s consider a particular form of spinal manipulation — upper cervical chiropractic. Upper cervical chiropractic is a subspeciality of chiropractic.

Somehow, it seems counterintuitive to work on the top two neck bones to relieve back pain. But then, spinal health is no less a top-down process. Ensuring that the top two bones are correctly aligned balances the head. This will prevent unnecessary strain from affecting the entire back, the lumbar vertebrae included.

Upper cervical adjustments are made gently, and this is something that appeals to many people. Upper cervical care does not twist or pop your spine; instead, it relies on low-force corrections that allow your spine time to heal.

If you have back pain, you must contact your upper cervical chiropractor to learn if a mild adjustment can relieve your pain without the side effects pills are known for.
