Diabetes and Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

Do you know that Type II diabetes patients have long benefitted from upper cervical chiropractic care, considering that the nervous system coordinates and controls all functions in the body, including the pancreas?

Diabetes mellitus is a term that describes a group of diseases that affect the body's utilization of glucose (sugar). Glucose is a vital source of energy for the cells that make up the tissues and muscles of the body. It also serves as the primary source of fuel for the brain.

The primary cause of diabetes varies by type. But no matter the kind of diabetes, the result will always be excess sugar in the blood. Having a lot of sugar in your blood can trigger severe health conditions.

There are two forms of chronic diabetes — type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In addition, potentially reversible diabetes condition includes gestational diabetes and prediabetes.

Prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels exceed the normal range. However, the blood sugar levels are not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. Therefore, prediabetes may lead to diabetes unless one takes steps to prevent it.

On the other hand, gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy. But it may resolve after delivery.

Studies have shown an estimated 16 million Type 1 or Type II diabetic patients in the United States.

In type 1 diabetes, the islet cells of the pancreas (responsible for insulin production) are destroyed, leaving the body without insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. Type I diabetes may result in severe complications such as limb amputation, blindness, kidney failure, and death.

Type I diabetes is an autoimmune condition. This means that it occurs after a malfunction of the immune system, which leads to the destruction of the insulin-producing pancreas cells. But recent studies have shown that it is not only the immune system that is at fault; the nerve system is also involved.

Symptoms of diabetes

The symptoms you experience will depend on your blood sugar level. In some cases, people with diabetes may not experience any symptoms, especially people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. However, symptoms of type 1 diabetes tend to come quickly and are always very severe.

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes include:

· Frequent urination

· Frequent thirst

· Unexplainable weight loss

· Constantly feeling weak and tired

· Having blurry vision

· Feeling irritable or having mood swings

· Sores that refuse to heal.

· Getting many infections, like vaginal, skin, and gum infections.

Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age. Most times, it starts during the teen years or childhood. Type 2 diabetes is more common than type 1 and can develop at any age. Type 2 diabetes is more common in people above the age of 40.

What does the research say about diabetes and its relationship with upper cervical chiropractic care?

Studies conducted at the Hospital for Sick Children and by researchers at the University of Calgary found that a "control circuit regulates the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas." The control circuit's regulatory effect helps retain these insulin-producing cells' normal function and health.

Upper cervical chiropractors have long known this control circuit to be the "brain-to-body communication circuit." As part of the study, the researchers knocked out some nerve cells and discovered that knocking out these cells created an obstruction between the body and brain communication. These nerve cells directly affect the pancreas, diabetes, and blood sugar levels. The researchers concluded that nerves are critical in the development of diabetes.

The findings from this study suggest that neuropathy may be more than the result of diabetes; it may be linked to the nervous system's role in the entire body process.

How upper cervical chiropractic can help diabetes

Upper cervical chiropractic care focuses on aligning the foundation of the spine (top of the neck) so that signals from the brain are transferred and received appropriately. The transmission of these signals is vital for the proper function of various bodily systems and organs, including the digestive system and the pancreas, which contribute to diabetes management.

Additionally, these nerve signals impact blood sugar regulation and digestion, so any spinal misalignments can impede the proper transfer of messages and impact the ability of the body to control blood sugar levels and manage diabetic symptoms.

When to see a healthcare provider

You should see a healthcare provider:

· Suppose you think that you have diabetes or that your child does. If you notice any symptoms, please, contact your healthcare provider. Treatment should begin as soon as this condition is diagnosed.

· Suppose you've already been diagnosed with diabetes. After receiving your diagnosis, you'll need close medical follow-up until your blood sugar levels return to normal.

Takeaway

Some types of diabetes (type 1, for instance) are caused by factors entirely out of your control. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes can be improved by making healthier diet choices, losing weight, and increasing activity.

Diabetes can also be improved by upper cervical chiropractic care by improving overall bodily function. Discuss potential diabetes risks with your healthcare provider. If you are at risk, have your blood sugar tested and adhere to medical advice for managing your blood sugar.
